Aqua's Phenomenal Performance in Philadelphia

By Leigha Kristina

Come on Barbie, let’s go party– with Aqua! The Danish-Norwegian Europop supergroup is in the US for their current world tour, and they brought their bright, colorful energy to the Fillmore on Tuesday evening. Supported by VASSY, Philly was in for a night of unforgettable fun.

A long line of fans queued up outside the Fillmore with excitement, knowing they were about to see a one-of-a-kind show. Naturally, the color of the night was pink. Even the venue staff was dressed up for the occasion. A sea of hot pink, glitter, and Aqua merch was all one could see on the venue floor. VASSY, an Australian-Greek artist, kicked off the show and treated everyone to an incredible selection of her music. Well known among the EDM scene, VASSY’s music style combines elements of pop, house, and electronica, making it the perfect set to dance the night away. Her voice is soulful and melodic, and her stage presence is dynamic and energetic. With a good number of fans in the room, VASSY was clearly having a great time interacting with the crowd. VASSY performed a set of 7 songs, giving fans a perfect warm up for the rest of the evening.

After a brief changeover, it was time for Aqua to take the stage. The room erupted into cheers and screams loud enough to burst an eardrum. They started with Cartoon Heroes, a song from their second studio album, Aquarius. Nothing in the world could stop the crowd from dancing. Their setlist was an incredible mix of songs throughout their nearly three decade career, playing songs like My Oh My, Happy Boys & Girls, and Halloween. Aqua’s catalog is full of infectiously catchy melodies and playful lyrics that keep people of all ages entertained. While the venue was mostly full of adults, the group had quite a number of kiddos in the crowd that were singing along and dancing to every word.  As the night was coming to a close, the group went into a powerhouse string of some of their most popular songs including Doctor Jones, Lollipop, and of course, the 1997 triple platinum hit, Barbie Girl.

The lighting design, the impeccable setlist, and unbelievable performances by both Aqua and VASSY left fans old and new boisterous as the show came to a close. Aqua will be continuing their world tour into 2024, so grab tickets while they’re available! It’s a beautifully fun night that nobody wants to miss.
